Obituary

Anita Johnson will be remembered for her strong Christian beliefs and her faithfulness to Christian values. She lived out her faith through her generosity of time and money, kindness, thoughtfulness, energy and fun-filled spirit. From childhood through adulthood, Anita gave of herself in service to others, in and out of her employment. She worked to the age of eighty-nine as "retirement" was not in her vocabulary. She cooked and entertained others in her home with her loving husband Wheeler who she was married to for fifty-five years until his death in 1988. Though she missed him terribly and their annual trips to Hawaii - twenty-five to be exact, she continued to be a gracious host to friends and family, especially to her children and grandchildren who adored her. Anita was a wonderful mother, she always provided loving support and guidance through the challenging and fun Ice Capade years with daughter Karen as well as the myriad of activities both Karen and son Marty participated in. More importantly, she never complained and continued to provide support even through difficult times. She loved taking her grandchildren Jeremy, Joel, Ryan and Natalie to the circus, rodeo, shopping and to any event she could - an awesome grandmother. Anita also served in her church and club organizations. She volunteered countless hours to reading and visiting the sick in nursing homes when she herself was often much older than the patients. She was generous in donating money to many veteran and child-focused organizations and she always gave to her children and grandchildren, as nothing was more important to her than her family. Sunday afternoons were always special as she insisted on treating her family and friends to dinner at Lyons or dessert at Baker's Square. Everyone will remember that Anita lived by the golden rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." She also believed, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all!" Anita never spoke badly about others but always saw the good in everyone. These examples of the person of Anita only begin to tell about this great lady as so much more can be written. However, not to forget, to top off the life and person of Anita, we must add that she had the most amazing sense of humor. She could get a laugh out of anyone at anytime in any situation with her humor and collection of jokes, many of which she buried away in her dresser drawers. Her smile was contagious and even in her last days she tried her best to put on a happy face. She will be missed beyond measure and remembered as the most gracious loving woman ever - her legacy will be shared with her great-grandchildren; Evan and Jaden Johnson, Carina Hyink, Esme and Rowan Johnson, and Isaac and Isabella Payan. Anita, amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and woman!
