Beni Alting Siberg Jap was born on January 8, 1931 in Jambi, Indonesia and grew up in Medan, Indonesia. She is the first daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Hoy Fong Yap. Beni was married to the late Ferdinand Albert George Alting Siberg (Teddy) in 1976 and moved to the Netherlands, later settling in Alicante, Spain before living in Hawaii. Having resided in several places allowed Beni to develop a notable array of language skills consisting of English, Dutch, Spanish, Indonesian, and Mandarin Chinese in addition to her native tongue of Hokkien Chinese. Beni was a middle school teacher in Indonesia and supported the family financially while her father and brothers were away from home. This shaped her personality and built her into a determined and strong-willed individual. She was the guardian in a household that needed an authoritative figure. Although she did not have children of her own, Beni loved each and every one of her nephews and nieces. Beni is survived by younger brothers, Warren T.S. Yap, Jusdi Tanoto, Jusnan Tanoto, and younger sisters, Emi Yap and Leni Tanoto. On April 14, 2013, Beni accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was subsequently baptized. We are happy she now rests in peace.
