Emogene (Jean) Leilani Ching died peacefully on December 12, 2010 at Seasons Hospice of Maryland, Randallstown, MD. Emogene was born on October 22, 1955, the fourth of five children to Paul and Blanche Ching. She is survived by her mother, Blanche L. Ching of Maili, HI; brothers Paul (Lana) Ching Jr. of Dexter, MI and Raymond (Joyce) Ching of Aiea, HI and sister Bonnie (Scott) Duncan of Maili, HI; nephews Troy (Shannon) Lau, Todd Lau, Kekoa Ching, Lance Ching and Jared Duncan; nieces Anoilani (Galu) Aga, Leslie Ching, Jenna Duncan, Janine Duncan and Joy-Amanda Duncan; 4 great nephews and 1 great niece. She was preceded in death by her father Paul Ching and sister Lellette Belval. Emogene grew up in rural Nanakuli during her early elementary years. She enjoyed camping and "roughing" it with her family at Makua during the summers. Nanakuli Beach Park was a favorite leisure site throughout her years in Hawaii. This is where she chose for her final resting place. Her ash-scattering is scheduled for Thursday, June 30th. After moving to Waipahu, Emogene took on more of a "mothering" role as the older sister to Bonnie. Transitioning to a new home and school was hard. She made many friends while at Waipahu Elementary, Waipahu Intermediate, and Waipahu High School; and for many of them was like a "mother" as well. Caring and protecting was just her nature! After graduating in 1973, Emogene served in the U.S. Air Force for 9 years attaining the rank of Staff Sargent and then in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves for 2 years. At the time of her death she was living in Savage, MD and was employed by the Dept. of Transportation as a supervisor in the FAA Agency. Emogene will be missed by all of her family and her friends. Services include an Ash-Scattering on Thursday, June 30 at 1 p.m. beginning at the Ko Olina Marina; and an Honor Guard Service on Friday, July 1 at 10 a.m. at the Veteran's Cemetary in Kaneohe.
