Obituary

We are here to return the earthly remains of Florine and Gerald Hauck to a place they dearly loved, together in death as they were in life. Their love and devotion throughout their 46 years of marriage were an inspiration to those who knew them. They were true soul mates until Gerald's death in 2002 separated them. Florine was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 1, 1923 to Augusta and Byron Alfson. She attended grade school in Iowa before moving to Boise, Idaho with her family. She graduated from Boise High School in 1941. She married Howard Kasney and moved to Walla Walla, Washington. They had 2 sons, Byron and Joseph Kasney. They were subsequently divorced. Gerald was born December 29, 1923 in Walla Walla, Washington to Earl and Leona Hauck. He attended school in Walla Walla. He enlisted in the Army, serving in both the European and South Pacific theaters during the Second World War. He married and had a son, Brent. He also was divorced. Both were products of the Depression which gave them a strong drive to succeed and the will to make something of their lives. Florine and Gerald met in Walla Walla and were married on October 11, 1956. They moved to Seattle and lived there for many years. Gerald went into the car business, eventually becoming General Manager of BBC Dodge in Burien, a position he held until his retirement. Florine worked as a bookkeeper for Hobart Sales and Service until she, too, retired. Gerald enjoyed golf, while Florine was an avid reader and pursued an interest in spiritual development. They liked spending summers in Washington and winters in Arizona, and they loved Hawaii. After Gerald passed away, Florine moved to Boise, Idaho to be near her sons and her sister, Elois Charlton and brother, Bill Alfson. She was able to be with Byron when he passed away. She liked to go out to dinner Friday nights with Joe and his wife, Shirley, and spending Sundays in their home. Florine and Shirley loved shopping trips, especially to Barnes and Noble. She passed away on March 28, 2012. Although we are saying goodbye to them in a sense, they will always live on in our hearts and memories. We will never forget Gerald's unshakable opinions on nearly any subject or Florine's graciousness and generosity. Go in peace and with our love and gratitude for the many years we were privileged to share with you.
