Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Lingelbaugh passed away at home on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 71. He was born on December 20, 1949, in Pittsburgh, PA. He is survived by his spouse Suzanne, children Aimee (Austin) Brendle and Andrew Singer, grandson Oliver Brendle, nieces Katheryn, Jessica and Alacia, and nephew David. He was predeceased by his parents William and Veronica (Rimikis) Lingelbaugh, brother William "Bill" and sister Cynthia "Cindy" (Eicher).

Jerry enlisted into the Air Force in 1968 until 1972. He served as a telecommunications specialist for the military and attained the rank of Sergeant. He spent part of his service stationed in Hawaii and vowed he would return. He was passionate about space and spent much of his career in satellite communications, working for NASA and SES GS.

Jerry returned to Kauai and continued working in satellite communications and was commended for his work getting communications up and running again after Hurricane Iniki. He changed employment during his time on Kauai, owning and operating a computer business for several years. Jerry loved animals and he and his first wife Karen owned numerous dogs, cats, birds, a pig, and horses. He was also known as "Stretch" among family and friends locally. He loved the outdoors and Kauai was perfect for all those pursuits.

In 2003 Jerry moved to Oahu to accept an offer from SES Government Solutions to work with satellites communications again. He married Suzanne (Jolly) and became father to Aimee and Andrew. Our furry additions to the family were Lila (GSD), Daisy (Golden Retriever) and kitties Cleo and Rufus. In 2012, he transferred with his company to Colorado Springs and retired in 2016.

Jerry had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh and had a sharp wit. He had a unique view of the world and shared with us his genuine wonder and curiosity of the universe and everything in it. He read books voraciously and loved a good debate. He loved music and played the guitar, a little keyboard & less violin.

Jerry remembered everyone. He made people feel special and would strike up conversations anywhere. He was the most interesting, loving, compassionate person I know. He was our biggest cheerleader and was always encouraging us to follow our dreams. He could always make me laugh. He was someone you could count on. He was our rock.

"I know you are on a spaceship,  phantasmal and infinite, overflowing with wonder, carefree and joyous, the lion is resting. Just don't laugh at this circus you see down here too much, we are stuck here without you."  (Andrew)

"It's not goodbye, just see you later." (Aimee)

"How we shall laugh at the parting, when we meet again." - Henry Scott Holland. (Suzanne)

Following an honor guard on the shore at Kukuiula, Jerry and Lila's ashes were committed to the sea from the vessel Anela Kai, off the coast of Kauai, HI, at 6:25pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022.
