John
Danielson
Jul 17, 1953 — Nov 2, 2003
DANIELSON, John -- July 15, 1953 to November 2, 2003, John "Johnny Tempo" Danielson was born in Coronado, California on July 15, 1953, the second son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert W. Danielson. The family moved to San Francisco in 1957 when his father returned to Stanford Medical school for an Ob-Gyn Residency and started private practice. Named after his grandfather, John Frederick Danielson, John grew up in Westlake, Mountain View and Los Altos, California.
John and his brother, Robert Danielson of Mill Valley, shared a life long love of music and formed several bands as they were growing up. Recently the two were collaborating on writing and recording songs. John had many passions in life and his unique sense of humor was a source of great joy and pleasure to his family and friends. A man of many talents and interests, John enjoyed (and entertained!) a wide circle of friends. He graduated from Los Altos High School in 1971 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Berkeley Art Department. He accomplished many things during his lifetime including pioneering the use of ultraviolet ink for Atari's game manufacturing division in the early 1980's.
He worked as a commercial artist and designer for Tempo Graphics in Los Gatos. And, in the 1990's John illustrated several children's books and became an award-winning web designer. His books are online at www.treepubs.com. Music was a driving force in his life. John became known for his talents as a drummer and percussionist and was often in demand as a "hired gun" for working bands. He performed with a number of popular northern California bands including O.B. Tender, Daddy-O, Brownsville Lady, and the Dada's. He also made a name for himself accompanying John Lee Sanders at The Cats in Los Gatos. His most current musical collaboration included former members of Dan Hicks' Hot Licks - Naomi Ruth Eisenbert and Maryann Price along with guitarist Jimmy James. Among John's many interests, he enjoyed golf, model railroading, Indian motorcycles, painting, sculpting, songwriting, designing and building furniture, Feng Shui and a variety of collectables.
He will be greatly missed by everyone, especially his immediate family - parents Danny and Irene Danielson of Los Gatos, his brother Robert and sister-in-law Jackie of Mill Valley.
A celebration of his life will be held on November 23, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Los Altos Chapel of SPANGLER MORTUARIES, 399 So. San Antonio Rd., Los Altos. Friends are invited to gather at the Crown Plaza Hotel Mediterranean Room, 4290 El Camino Real, Palo Alto afterwards to share music and memories. Donations preferred...
