Obituary

McGlauthon (Mac) Fleming Jr. was born on March 7, 1957 to the union of McGlauthon and Henrietta Fleming Sr.  Mac was the second child and the oldest boy of seven children.

Mac grew up in the Englewood area and attended Jesse Sherwood elementary school.  He went on to graduate from Edward Tilden High School. He attended Illinois State University for a short while.  Mac attended Washburn Trade School as an apprentice to become a Sheet Metal Worker. After 4 years of study and training he was certified as a "Sheet Metal Journeyman".

Mac was married to the love of his life Sandra D. Washington on November 25, 1978 in Chicago, Illinois.  They first met in elementary school when they were in 7th grade.  They went on to become friends in high school.  To their union McGlauthon Fleming III and Menika L. Fleming were born.  He raised his children with one thing in mind "respect".

Mac accepted Christ as his personal Savior in his early twenties.  He was baptized under the leadership of Reverend Clifford Tyler of First Timothy Baptist Church.  He never shied away from telling people that he believed in God and that one day he would see Jesus.

Mac was a man of many layers.  He was a very friendly and outgoing person.  He always started his day with reading his bible.  He could and would talk to anyone about anything.   He loved to take pictures of clouds.  Often times in the summer he could be seen sitting on the deck taking pictures and then commenting on how awesome God was at forming such beautiful sights.  He enjoyed drawing, growing plants, reading comic books, writing poetry and listening to all kinds of loud music.

Besides loving his family, Mac loved to cook.  There was nothing that he could not cook and cook well.  He had some of the "BEST" ribs and rib tips around.  He would cook for his family members, neighbors, and friends.  He cooked and shopped so much that his Sam's Club and Debit Card had to be confiscated by his wife.

Mac played basketball for a short time and then began playing softball.  He played with the Villains and 10 Most Wanted teams.  Mac was an avid bowler and joined his first league in 1981.  He was an active member of South Side Mixed, and Show Me the Money evening leagues just to name a few.  He was also a member of the oldest all men Black league in the nation on Saturday nights, The Guardsmen. Mac became a really good bowler.  He bowled four Perfect Games (300) and two 800 Series games.  Because of his efforts he was inducted into the Black Bowlers Hall of Fame.

Mac worked as a Sheet Metal Worker for 40 years and was an active member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 73 located in Hillside, Illinois. During his tenure he worked on such buildings as the University of Chicago Hospital, Blue Shield Blue Cross, Sears Tower, and Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 at O'Hare Airport.  Mac loved being a Sheet Metal Worker.  Mac worked rather it was freezing cold or blazingly hot outside without complaining.  He would always say, "It's 90 degrees and sunny baby."

McGlauthon (Mac) Fleming Jr made his transition on January 16, 2020 due to complications associated with the stroke he suffered in April 2019. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Sandra;  Son, McGlauthon III (Nakia) daughter Menika; grandchildren, Xavier, Zakiyah, McGlauthon IV, Cameron; great-grandchildren, Logan , Jeramih , Kaelynn, Maverick ; his sister, Rhonda Bryant (Levester), brothers, Cass (Sandra),  Ray Anthony (Brenda), Jermaine, Aunt Chris,  and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
