Nanette Eileen Rook took her final journey into her Heavenly Father's arms on March 19, 2015 after a lengthy but courageous battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her former sister-in-law Lisa and Niece Amber were by her side.
Nanette came into this world through the love of Dale Frederick Rook and Nancy Arizonia Stafford on December 8, 1963. She grew up in El Monte, CA, and in her teen years moved with the family to Victorville, CA, where she graduated from Victor Valley High. Nan, as she was known to all, wanted to head off to college to study photography, however circumstances wouldn't allow her to do so. She would find her true calling later in life.
Nan had a variety of careers in her short life. She worked fast food, as an answering service operator, making sales calls for a photography studio and the phone company, and helping her dearest friend and her husband form a successful business. Her life turned around when she started working as a customer support technician at a call center in Oregon. There she was afforded the opportunity for the biggest thrill of her life; working for Apple Inc. Nan's dedication to her job and love of the work drove her up the ladder. She became the first female Mac Genius at the first Apple Store in
McLean, Virginia.
and her last years of life were spent as Manager for a small group of At-Home Advisors.
Nan was gifted with many talents. She had the patience to crochet beautiful pieces to give as gifts. She was a chef beyond measure, making meals that would have
Gordon Ramsay smile. She was never afraid to prepare new foods or try them in restaurants. Nan knew the best place for blueberries was in Maine, the best oysters were in Idaho, and the best empanadas could be found at Tito's Market in El Monte. Although she never studied the art of photography it was natural for her to capture a sunset in it's glory or a flower in perfect bloom. Her skill was criticized when she entered one of her photographs in a local fair and was disqualified for using digital enhancements. Her subject was a small church surrounded by trees and the sunlight in the early morning would cast a heavenly glow upon it's walls. To this day, that photo still stuns those who see it, and know it was untouched by anything but Nan's gift of capturing the moment.
Nan loved to travel. Whether it was for business or vacation, she always found it a huge adventure. Sometimes she found the greatest joy discovering what her local surroundings had to offer. Others were major vacations to exciting places like Nashville, Las Vegas, and the beautiful island of Maui. She rarely traveled alone, taking either close friends or immediate family along with her. Nan loved to share her experiences with others.
Nan was a kind, caring soul whom will never be forgotten. Her love of her teammates at Apple, her family, her friends, and those who were lucky enough to be graced by her presence will forever carry her love with them.
