Obituary

Paul Herbert Lawson was born, July 22, 1958 to Marjonell Burrell and Morris Lawson in Los Angeles, CA. He was the fourth addition to his six sibling family. He shared a unique bond with each of his siblings and became his mother's most inquisitive son over the course of their young adventures. His special relationship with his Aunt and Godmother, Vernell Wade, helped shape Paul's life tremendously. Vernell took Paul under her wing and opened him up to many different experiences. They shared memorable moments including fishing, beach outings and drive-in movies.  Though their time together was brief, his fond memories of her remained.

Paul was an A student with a perfect attendance record in Los Angeles Unified School District. He was the star quarterback at Los Angeles High School in 1976, despite being a senior walk-on.  They considered him a first-year jewel.  His passion for education and athletics lead Paul to pursue further education at Los Angeles Community College and Southwest College.  He was elected to the Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges in recognition of outstanding merit and accomplishments.  He earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Southwest College.  Upon graduation, Paul was looking for his next step and was encouraged by his mother to pursue a career in law.

In November 1980, he entered The Los Angeles Police Academy and soon after embarked upon a successful thirty-two year career.  Paul served his community at the Southwest Community Police Station for the entirety of his profession beginning at level of P1 and moving up three ranks prior to retiring as a decorated police sergeant.  His most prized accomplishment was becoming a distinguished marksmen.  Though proud of his professional accomplishments, the pride and joy of his life was his family.
