Obituary

Shirley Hyman was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 19, 1936 and named Shirley Puanani Paikai.  She was the 12th child of the blended family that her father Ebenezer Paikai and mother Christina united after the death of their first spouses. Unfortunately both parents passed on early and Shirley was lovingly raised by her  eldest sister May and her husband Wally Ho. Shirley forever cherished that May & Wally opened their home to her and especially loved the relationship she shared with their children (Sonny, Sharon, Arleen, Wayne, & Whitney). Shirley finished H.S. and soon met her husband Cleo Hyman while on a blind date in Honolulu. She relocated to California and married Cleo on August 29th, 1957.  They hae two children, Frank (aka Sam) and Linda that they raised in La Puente, CA.

Shirley was a housewife who ran the local Little League Women's Club, led the Girl & Boy (Cub) Scouts, housed the political elections in her garage, participated in bunko & bingo clubs and enjoyed a wonderful RV adventure with Cleo when they sold the house and became "RV Snow Birds". While on these travels, they ate crab in New England, chocolate in Hersey Pennsylvania, fished in Texas and hiked in Yosemite CA. They also shared RV adventures with their grandchildren. They finally settled back in Hemet CA in 2010, where in their 80's Cleo & Shirley still took week long RV trips each month to enjoy God's nature.

Shirley lost her battle to lung cancer on August 28th, 2017 one day before her 60th wedding anniversary to Cleo.  She is survived by her husband Cleo, daughter Linda, son-in-law Henry, Frank's wife Shannon Lopez (Frank passed in 2007), and grandchildren Stephen, Alex, Gabrielle, and Julian.  Her brother George (& his wife Kay), sisters Mary & Mamo (& her husband Bobby Stanley) and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends (Especially: Birdie Williams, Betty & Rolland Briggs, LaPuente Friends - Children of the Williams/Moodys/Pattersons/ & others, RV Buddies, and the Bing & Pokeno Ladies).

On October 21st Cleo will journey back to Honolulu to release Shirley's ashes in the ocean as she always told him to do. Cleo would like to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness and prayers.
