Sonya was reunited with her beloved Jack on May 5, 2017. She was 79 years old. Sonya was born in Kansas City, Missouri but grew up in El Monte, California. From an early age, Sonya was singing and dancing. In 1951, a little country band was looking for a singer. Not only did Sonya become the singer it is at that first audition that she met the love of her life Jack. She was the 13 year old singer and he was the 16 year old steel guitar player. On November 7, 1953 Sonya married her sweetheart Jack and they were married for 62 years. She had two sons; Jere and Jeff. She was a great mother. She did everything for her boys. They were her heart. While raising her boys Sonya worked at Forrest Lawn in Covina, CA. She worked there in floral design (among other tasks) for 17 years. When Jack retired, Sonya and he moved up north to Minden, NV. She once again went back to work working in a floral shop. She had three grandchildren; Britney, Justin and Jeffrey - to them she will always be their Nana. She was the kind of Nana all children would wish they had. She lovingly bragged about her grand kids, she played card games, board games, miniature golf, baked cookies and listen to them, encourage them but most of all loved them. She loved birds, dogs and all animals. Her home was always filled with pets. In California, she was the desert tortoise rescue lady. In Minden, she belonged to two classic car clubs with Jack and to a ladies' club the Crystal Angels. The Crystal Angels did a lot of charity work for their local area and she was so happy to be able to help others. Sonya had a lot of friends. She cherished her friendships. She still had a good friend that she has been friends with since 1955. Her favorite place in the world was Maui. She had been there 11 times. She loved everything about it. From the smells of the flowers to the breathtaking sunsets it was heaven on earth for her. As we receive cards and notes on Sonya passing the two most common adjectives to describe her are SWEET and BEAUTIFUL. However, strong, amazing, classy, life-giving and loving are also words that would be used to describe her. If she was writing this she would just want to be known as a loving wife, mother and the BEST NANA. Which she was all of them and more. She will be MISSED GREATLY!
WE LOVE YOU MOM/NANA!
