Toni-Marie Majors-Hanson, 82 of Long Beach, California passed away on May 3rd, 2017.
Toni-Marie Majors-Hanson (née Ruth Marie Estrella) or Toni as she was also known, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 14, 1934 to Winifred Dominga Vegas and Jacintho Jr. (Sidney) Estrella. She was later adopted by her step-father U.S. Navy, Chief Petty Officer, Morgan H. Chandler (originally from Springfield, Oregon) during the late 1940s.
Toni grew up in the Kaimuki neighborhood on the island of Oahu, Hawaii which is located near Diamond Head and the famous Waikiki Beach. It is there she mainly lived with her mother and 3 brothers, with many family and extended family members nearby.
Growing up Toni-Marie spent much time helping her mother look after her brothers, whilst enjoying many days of going to school, socialising, learning to sing and playing her favourite ukulele. At about 15 years of age, the family moved to San Diego, California (among other cities), but finished her education , got married and settled down in San Diego. Toni-Marie later moved back to Hawaii (Haleiwa) for a few years before moving permanently to Long Beach, California, to live closer to her parents in the early 1960s. This is where she lived, re-married and retired after a career at Tayco Engineering (Cypress, Calif).
Toni-Marie had a colorful personality; was strong willed and had a great zest for life and music. Toni also had an amazing singing voice and at every opportunity sang both professionally and privately for family and friends. Toni-Marie was always the life of a party - she will be dearly missed.
Preceded in death by her parents and step-father, as well as her long-time partner Henry LaRue Majors.
