Bend resident Wanda Sue Brown, died on August 11, 2011 at her home surrounded by family & friends after a 6 year battle with cancer. She was 42. Wanda was born on July 24, 1969 in McMinnville, OR to Ira & Jean Hill. She attended grade school through her junior year at the Willamina school in Willamina, OR. She graduated from Culver High School in 1987. Her first job out of high school was building trails for Blue Lake Resort, worked 9 years as a Recreation Leader at The 7th Mountain Resort and was a lift hostess at Mt. Bachelor. She had continuing education at COCC in horticulture and massage therapy and owned her own landscape maintenance business. In addition, she practiced massage therapy with Dr. Brad Welker. Wanda was a free spirit who loved to travel to the places that fed her soul including Hawaii, Breitenbush, the John Day River and Warm Springs Reservoir. She was at peace in the outdoors and was an accomplished hunter, fisher, hiker and gardener. She was a true renaissance woman who could sew, spin, do woodworking, weave, knit, bake, cook and loved to read. Her motto was "work hard, play hard". Wanda is survived by her son, Aiden Brown & his father, Ken Brown of Bend, her parents, Ira and Jean Hill of Culver, her sister, Peggy Bumgardner & family of Culver and countless friends who loved her. Her family wishes to thank everyone who helped Wanda with her care. A special thank you to Partners In Care of Bend, Cancer Care of the Cascades and her many friends who helped her with her passage. Wanda's family is returning her to her beloved Hawaii in September.
